Topical Vitamin C- The Wonder Medicine For Skin
Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants are those products that protect the body from free radicals and help slow down aging. Vitamin C in topical form also stimulates collagen production and helps replenish the natural vitamin C found in cells of skin that gets reduced due to sun damage. Vitamin C topical creams are very popular for many facial problems such as fine lines, etc., but you have to carefully select the preparation, as vitamin C is very unstable. Let us find out more about the properties of topical Vitamin C.

How Topical Vitamin C Works?
Vitamin C, being an anti-oxidant, reduces the sun damage caused on the skin by neutralizing free radicals. It thus reduces sun damage to an extent. Though it cannot be used as a sunscreen, but if formulated with sunscreens, it adds to the property of protection against sun damage. Vitamin C also stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin. As we age, we lose collagen. We also lose collagen because of sun exposure. Vitamin C helps reduce this loss of collagen. Vitamin C topicals are therefore used to reduce age lines and sun damage. It may also protect against sunburn to a certain extent.

Why Topical And Not Oral?

If you take more oral Vitamin C, the body will flush it out. Topical vitamin C preparations reach, where they are required most. But vitamin C as L ascorbic acid is highly unstable and one has to be very careful in choosing a vitamin C topical cream. Consult your doctor about the right selection so that you may get the best out of Vitamin C.
